Humanities is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal on the meaning of cultural expression and perceptions as seen through different interpretative lenses. Humanities is published bimonthly online by MDPI.

• High Visibility: indexed within ESCI (Web of Science), ERIH Plus, and other databases.

Launched in 2020, Berghahn Open Anthro is a subscribe-to-open model being piloted by Berghahn Books in partnership with Libraria. This model was developed in part through a 2019 ground-breaking collaborative meeting between publishers, libraries, funders, and OA experts that was held at MIT.

A member of the Radical Open Access Collective, Culture Machine is a series of experiments in culture and theory. Since 1999, it has sought out and promoted scholarly work that engages provocatively with contemporary technical objects, processes and imaginaries from the North and South. Building on its open ended, non-instrumental, and exploratory approach to media theory, cultural studies and political philosophy, Culture Machine welcomes creative proposals that contest and come up against globalizing technical narratives and the environmental logics of extraction.

Digital Humanities Quarterly is a peer-reviewed open-access academic journal covering all aspects of digital media in the humanities. The journal is also a community experiment in journal publication.

First Monday is one of the first openly accessible, peer–reviewed journals on the Internet, solely devoted to the Internet. Since its start in May 1996, First Monday has published 2,197 papers in 317 issues, written by 3,207 different authors. In addition, 36 special issues have appeared. The Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy is founded on the principle of publisher-funded open access. Public access to articles in the Journal of Ethics & Social Philosophy is free of charge, at no charge to authors, and are available to all readers under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 license. Funding for the journal has been made possible through the generous commitment of the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences at the University of Southern California. JPE was established in 1994, as one of the world's first OA social science journals, at the University of Arizona, where it is still hosted by the UA Libraries. The JPE is a 'gold' Open Access journal, with the work done by volunteer editors and referees from academic institutions. Over the years, the JPE has published several important contributions to the field of political ecology, and spanned several disciplines, while remaining free of charge to readers and authors.

The main editorial goal of the Journal of World-Systems Research is to develop and disseminate scholarly research on topics that are relevant to the analysis of world-systems. We especially want to include works that proceed from several different theoretical stances and disciplines. These include, but are not limited to, civilizationists, evolutionary approaches, international political economy, comparative, historical and cultural analysis. We seek the work of political scientists, historians, sociologists, ethnographers, archaeologists, economists and geographers.

The National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD) is the place to discover, access, and analyze data on crime and justice.  NACJD hosts several large-scale datasets, including the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports (UCR), the FBI's National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), and the Project on Human Development in Chicago Neighborhoods (PHDCN).

SAGE Open is a peer-reviewed, "Gold" open access journal from SAGE that publishes original research and review articles in an interactive, open access format. Articles may span the full spectrum of the social and behavioral sciences and the humanities.

Sign Systems Studies is is an international journal of semiotics and sign processes in culture and living nature. It publishes original scientific papers, review articles and book reviews on semiotics of culture and nature.

Since 2009, each volume includes four issues. The official languages are English and Russian, Estonian for abstracts.

The Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is a collection of papers from the social sciences community. It is a highly interdisciplinary platform used to search for scholarly articles related to 67 social science topics. SSRN has a variety of research networks for the various topics available through the free scholarly database.

The site offers more than 700,000 abstracts and more than 600,000 full-text papers. There is not yet a specific option to search for only full-text articles, but, because most of the papers on the site are free access, it's not often that you encounter a paywall. There is currently no option to search for only peer-reviewed articles.

You must become a member to use the services, but registration is free and enables you to interact with other scholars around the world. SSRN is "passionately committed to increasing inclusion, diversity and equity in scholarly research," and they encourage and discuss the use of inclusive language in scholarship whenever possible.

Southern Spaces is a peer-reviewed open-access academic journal that publishes articles, photo essays and images, presentations, and short videos about real and imagined spaces and places of the Southern United States and their connections to the wider world. The intended audience includes researchers and teachers, students in and out of classrooms, library patrons, and the general public.

A multimedia digital publication, Southern Spaces encourages the representation and analysis of many souths and southern regions, the critical scrutiny of any monolithic "South", the discovery of time-space relationships, and the mapping of expressive cultural forms associated with place. The journal covers areas such as geography, southern studies, regional studies, women's studies, queer studies, public health, and African American, Native American, and American studies.
